Jun 25 — Keir Starmer, British Prime Minister, has announced that the United Kingdom will send 350 advanced air defence missiles to Ukraine bought by £70 million ($95 million) from frozen Russian assets, reported media The Guardian.

On June 23, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, on his way to NATO’s annual summit in The Hague, met Starmer to discuss defense agreements between the countries.

“Russia, not Ukraine, should pay the price for Putin’s barbaric and illegal war. It is only right we use seized Russian assets to strengthen Ukraine’s air defences. The security of Ukraine is vital to our own,” said Starmer after Zelenskyy’s visit.

The UK built 350 air defence missiles in record time — 3 months — for a ground launch. The UK will also supply Raven air defence systems to launch the missiles. Five of them are already on their way to Ukraine, so the total number of systems transferred to Kyiv will be 13.

The transfer will take place as part of the UK’s largest-ever yearly commitment to Ukraine that amounts to £4.5 billion ($6 billion) in military aid.

Starmer also had agreed with Volodymyr Zelenskyy to work closely together on military production between the UK and Ukraine. On June 23, politicians approved to deepen their defence cooperation by jointly producing long-range drones.
