UKRAINE, Dec 17 – The United Kingdom has allocated emergency support worth  $44.1 million to help Ukraine restore its power grid, the UK government announced.

In the spring of 2024, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with missiles and drone strikes. On May 8, the Prime Minister reported that they had destroyed or damaged 800 heating facilities in the country.

The aid package includes $25.4 million to meet emergency energy needs, support transmission network repairs, provide additional power generation capacity, and protect critical energy infrastructure.

The UK will help with a project to develop an additional 20 MW of electricity, enough to supply up to 20,000 homes.

The other $18.9 million will be used for humanitarian aid in the winter. $6.35 million will go to UNICEF, and another $12.5 million will be provided through UNHCR.

In addition, these funds will help to provide more than 21,000 families with emergency heating kits, housing repairs, additional winter payments, generators, and the winterization of centers where IDPs live.
