UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Nov 12 – The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a resident in the Kharkiv region who was passing information about the location of the Ukrainian military positions in the Kupiansk direction to Russians, reported SBU spokesman Vladyslav Abdula.
Since the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, more than 1,000 people in the Kharkiv Oblast have received a notice of suspicion in proceedings over treason, collaboration, and dissemination of information about the movement of the Armed Forces.
According to the investigation, Russia’s FSB recruited an unemployed man from Kupiansk after noticing his pro-Russian comments in a popular messenger.
Abdula said the man walked around the city and the surrounding area, allegedly recording the location and routes of the Ukrainian military. The Russians reportedly planned to use the information to attack headquarters, fortified areas, and firing positions in the front line.
Vladyslav Abdula said the Russians promised the man a payment for the information, but he didn’t receive it.
SBU detained the man in his own home. He faces life imprisonment and confiscation of property if proven guilty by court.
