UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug 26 — At about 8 a.m., the Russians launched a missile attack on Kharkiv. There were no casualties, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.

Russia attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, often because of its proximity to the international border and the frontline, with various types of weapons. Attacks have significantly intensified since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the region in May.

Oleh Syniehubov said that the Russians hit an open area in the Nemyshlianskyi district of the city.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said that a massive Russian attack today affected 15 regions of Ukraine. The Russian army used various types of weapons, including drones, cruise missiles, and Kinzhal missiles. There are dead and injured.

Today’s Russian massive attack on Ukraine killed at least four and injured 19, including a 10-year-old boy and an infant.

Russians targeted energy infrastructure, Shmyhal said. There is damage in several regions, so emergency power outages are in effect to stabilize the network.

In the spring of 2024, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with missiles and drone strikes. In particular, the March attacks destroyed “almost all [objects] of critical energy infrastructure, including private ones,” supplying Kharkiv and its region.

Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov said on Ukrainian TV on July 30 that 141 energy generation facilities will be installed in Kharkiv for the heating season, including power generation and cogeneration units, and block and modular boilers.
