UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug 9 — The Russian army dropped a glide bomb (KAB) on an educational institution in Kharkiv, injuring 1 person, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.
Russia attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, often because of its proximity to the international border and the frontline, with various types of weapons. Attacks have significantly intensified since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the region in May.
Residents heard an explosion in Kharkiv at about 3:24 p.m. The Russian bomb attack damaged an educational institution’s building in the city.
Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine that the city needs “the most modern system of air defense” to protect the skies above it.
According to the mayor, several Patriot systems will not be able to fully protect Kharkiv, as the Russians mostly attack the city with glide bombs (FABs and KABs), often modified to fly from beyond the border.
One of the most efficient ways to prevent these attacks is to shoot down the aircraft that launches these bombs.
