UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Nov 13 – On November 12, the Russian army attacked the Saltivskyi district of Kharkiv with a Molniya-1 unmanned aerial vehicle, injuring two women. This was the first time the Russians used this type of weapon in Kharkiv, so the air raid alert didn’t start on time, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.
The Russian army has been often attacking Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, since the start of the full-scale invasion — the city is close to the border and the frontline. Russians use various weapons like glide bombs, strike drones, and missiles to target civilian and critical infrastructure.
“This is an aircraft-type gliding weapon, which can carry various types of munitions weighing about three to five kilograms. It’s very primitive in design and made of plywood, so it’s cheap. In fact, it cannot inflict significant damage to a residential building, only partially damage it, or attack civilians on the street,” commented Dmytro Chubenko, a spokesman for the regional Prosecutor’s Office, to Gwara Media.
Residents also told Gwara’s journalists that they were terrified when they heard the sound of the explosion.
In 40 minutes, the Russians struck the Slobidskyi district of Kharkiv with the same “Molniya” drones, injuring a 70-year-old woman.
Russian troops have previously used “Molniya” [“Lightning” from Russian, — ed.] UAVs in Donetsk, made of Chinese details, aluminum tubes, plywood, and polystyrene, writes Focus. However, in Kharkiv, the Russians used it for the first time yesterday.
