UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep 10 — Russians attacked rescuers with double-tap strike while putting out a fire in Kupiansk caused by a shelling, reported reported the State Emergency Service (SES) of Kharkiv region.
Towns and villages of the Kharkiv Oblast come under massive Russian artillery shelling and air strikes often, even more so since Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the region in the Vovchansk and Lyptsi directions in May.
On September 9, after the Russian shelling of the city of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, a fire broke out at several civilian infrastructure facilities, and 12 rescuers, including medics from the Dnipropetrovsk region, arrived to put them out.
When the firefighters arrived, the fire had covered an area of 800 m2. They put out all the fires only on September 10.
During the firefighting, the Russians repeatedly attacked the location with artillery. Several times, the rescuers were forced to go to the shelter. However, as soon as they resumed work, the shelling started again.
On August 20, the Russian double-tap attack injured a representative of the Derhachi City Council, Oleksandr Kulik, a spokesman for the Derhachi City Council, reported Gwara Media.
According to Kulik, a city council employee sustained an arm injury when he tried to help another victim, who died soon afterward as a result of his injuries.
