UKRAINE, KYIV, Jul 9 — On the morning of July 8, Russia launched a missile attack on Kyiv, damaging a children’s hospital, two floors of a multi-story building, a house, garages, and cars. The Russian missile attack on the capital killed 29 and injured 117 people, including four children.
In particular, the Russians hit Ukraine’s largest children’s hospital, Okhmatdyt, during the attack. The strike killed two adults and injured 32 people, including eight children, reported Kyiv City Military Administration.
Health Minister Viktor Liashko wrote on Facebook that more than 600 patients and at least as many staff members were at the Okhmatdyt and the Ukrainian Center for Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, located near the hospital, at the moment of the Russian attack.
The investigation concluded that Russian forces used a Kh-101 strategic cruise missile to attack the medical facility.
The missile destroyed the toxicology building and damaged four more. It damaged ten surgical departments, five oncology departments, two somatic departments, intensive care, two reanimation units, operating units, radiology and radiation therapy departments, and part of the oncohematology laboratory.
“Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv. It is one of the most important children’s hospitals not only in Ukraine but also in Europe. Okhmatdyt has saved the lives of thousands of children. Now, the hospital has been damaged by a Russian strike, and people are trapped in the rubble, with the exact number of injured and dead unknown. Now everyone is helping to clear the rubble: doctors and civilians,” said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Today, at 10:25 a.m., Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko announced that emergency rescue work on the territory of the Okhmatdyt children’s hospital in Kyiv had been completed.
