UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Dec 23 — The environmental inspectorate has estimated the damage caused by the Russian attack on Kharkiv’s Svobody Square on November 8, 2024, at more than $5.78 million, reported the State Ecological Inspectorate in Kharkiv Oblast.
The Russian army has been often attacking Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, since the start of the full-scale invasion — the city is close to the border and the frontline. Russians use various weapons like glide bombs, strike drones, and missiles to target civilian and critical infrastructure there.
On the night of November 8, at around 3:30 a.m., the Russian army struck three different locations in Kharkiv with glide bombs (KABs), injuring 25 people, including children.
The attack destroyed facilities in the city’s central district and in Saltivka, including high-rise buildings, shops, cars, a metro station, historical buildings, and Derzhprom (State Industrial Complex.)
The Russian attack also damaged the main and northern buildings of Karazin Kharkiv National University. The strike also damaged New Year installations on the Svobody Square.
