UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 8 — The Russian armed aggression has destroyed 1,019 miles of roads and damaged 1,503 miles of road surface, which is about 55% of the total length of local roads, reported the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Towns and villages of the Kharkiv Oblast come under massive Russian artillery shelling and air strikes often, even more so since Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the region in the Vovchansk and Lyptsi directions in May.
In addition, authorities report, Russian aggression destroyed 29 bridges in the Kharkiv region.
In 2023, the Government allocated $12 million from the reserve fund to restore major logistics routes and build 24 bridges. However, restoration work has been suspended on five bridges due to their proximity to the frontline.
According to Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast, road restoration is important to ensure logistics routes that allow civilians to evacuate from frontline and border settlements, transport humanitarian supplies, and promptly evacuate injured people.
So far, the administration reports, 15 logistics routes with a total length of 654 miles have been opened.
