UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Aug 6 — Russian forces killed 30 volunteers who helped civilians in areas close to the frontline in Kharkiv Oblast, reported the Relief Coordinating Centre during the meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine.

On August 4, Zelenskyy visited various frontline areas in the Kharkiv region and the city itself, awarding soldiers and combat medics. He also met with representatives of the local youth, businesses, and organizations to discuss the region’s current challenges, needs, and problems.

Yevhen Koliada, the head of the Relief Coordinating Centre, noted during the meeting that the Kharkiv government is in open dialogue with volunteer organizations.

“The volunteer sector continues to develop, but this development has a tragic side — the death of volunteers,” said Koliada.

He said that the Volunteer Council, with the help of the local government, opened the Alley of Memory for volunteers.

“Families also do not receive adequate compensation for the loss of a loved one who died helping people. This problem exists in Kharkiv and other regions of Ukraine,” he said.

According to the Relief Coordinating Centre, over 270 volunteer organizations operate in the Kharkiv region. They cover a wide range of activities, including evacuating civilians, helping victims of Russian attacks, supporting children and internally displaced persons, and distributing aid in frontline communities.
