UKRAINE, Nov 7 –  Russian troops target Ukrainian energy infrastructure with Shahed drones to save up missiles it stockpiles at strategic aviation airfields, said Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine.

Russia continues to launch attacks targeting both civilian areas and critical infrastructure in Ukraine, using a range of weaponry, including missiles, drones, and artillery. These strikes often target critical infrastructure services, from power plants to water supply systems.

Andrii Kovalenko said that Russia’s rate of missile production does not allow it to conduct intensive attacks with constant use of missiles. However, drones are more cost-effective for them.

“Shaheds are a cheaper tool, although the effectiveness of these drones is more suitable for terrorizing civilians than for using them for their intended purposes (their efficiency is barely 10%),” Kovalenko said.

On November 5, the Russian army attacked the city of Kharkiv with a Shahed kamikaze drone, damaging a five-story apartment building and nearby cars and injuring three people.
