UKRAINE, Aug 20 — Ukraine has already contracted 1 million drones, and 500 Ukrainian companies produce unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reported Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
Drones are an important asset in the Russia-Ukraine war, providing real-time surveillance and the ability to launch precision strikes. They improve situational awareness, increase targeting accuracy, and reduce risks for Ukrainian soldiers.
“Ukraine has made a significant advance in the production and use of drones,” Shmyhal said.
He added that the government will allocate $580 million to purchase drones for the Security and Defense Forces.
On June 26, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree creating the Unmanned Systems Forces within the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Unmanned Systems Forces is the world’s first branch of the military—a separate branch within the Armed Forces of Ukraine—to use air, sea surface, and underwater ground drones and robotic systems in combat.
Shmyhal says that currently Ukraine “completes the assembly” of this new branch of armed forces.
