UKRAINE, KUPIANSK DISTRICT, Nov. 25 — Russian troops are currently occupying 48 settlements of the Kupiansk district, reported the Kupiansk district military administration in response to Gwara Media’s official inquiry.
Kupiansk district, containing eight communities (or hromadas in Ukrainian), was the only district in Kharkiv oblast that was completely occupied by Russia in 2022. Currently, according to information from officials, 48 out of 269 settlements are temporarily occupied by Russia.
Currently, Russia occupies 32 settlements in Dvorichna, 12 settlements in Petropavlivka, one in Kurylivka, two in Kindrashivka, and one settlement in Vilhuvatka communities. In response to Gwara’s inquiry, officials also note that no people are living in 10 out of these 48 settlements.
Geolocated footage from Nov. 23 showed that Ukrainian forces advanced near Stepova Novoselivka village southeast of Kupiansk, reported the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Russia intensified its offensive on Kupiansk this summer. Russia aims to surround and occupy Kupiansk and seize Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, a city located south of Kupiansk, which serves as an important logistics and railway hub for the region.
