UKRAINE, KUPIANSK, Nov 14 — Yesterday, starting from 2:30 p.m., the Russian army tried to break through Ukraine’a defences on the Kupiansk axis, reported the press office of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on November 13.
Andrii Kovaliov, the spokesperson for the General Staff, told Ukrinform that Ukrainian troops successfully repelled the Russian attempt to enter Kupiansk. “The city is under the control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”
General Staff wrote that Russians conducted four waves of the assault, utilizing about 15 units of military equipment, including tanks, armored vehicles, and mine clearing vehicles UR-77.
General Staff also said that “a part of Russian soldiers wore the uniform of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. That violates laws and customs of war and is a war crime.”
Russia’s advance on Kupiansk, a once-occupied city in the eastern part of Kharkiv Oblast, intensified this summer, supported by heavy shelling, bombardment, and drone attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure in this region.
The General Staff’s morning report today says there have been 12 combat clashes on the Kupiansk axis over the past day, with Armed Forces repelling Russian attacks near Lozova, Kucherivka, Petropavlivka, Kolisnykivka, Zahryzove, Kruhliakivka, and Pershotravneve.
Ukrainian crowdsourced OSINT website DeepState wrote about Russian assault groups “rushing into” Kupiansk on November 13. They said that some Russian soldiers from one of the armored vehicles hit by the Ukrainian army managed to “scatter to the [nearby] buildings,” and another group has been destroyed by the AFU.
“The enemy knows of their success,” DeepState wrote, “which is why they tried to send backup, that was also hit [by Ukrainian forces.]”
On November 13, Russians also attacked Kupiansk with an FPV drone, injuring an ambulance driver. Because of the constant Russian shelling, local authorities say, it’s challenging to transfer injured people to the hospital.
Kupiansk is located 62 miles away from Kharkiv and 25 miles from the Russian border.
