UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 5 — In the central part of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region, Ukrainian troops destroyed a Russian infantry fighting vehicle BMP-2 with crew and troops, which were moving to storm the positions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, reported the “Kharkiv” group of forces.

Russia started its new offensive north and northeast in the Kharkiv region in May, but Ukrainian troops have stabilized the frontline in this section since. Now, heavy battles are ongoing in and around Vovchansk (three miles from the border, 46 miles away from Kharkiv) and near Lyptsi (six miles from the border, 12 miles from Kharkiv.)

“In Vovchansk, the Russian occupiers evacuated the wounded from the assault unit of the 153rd Tank Regiment of the 47th Tank Division of the 1st Tank Army. They are regrouping the personnel of the assault groups. In the central part of the city, our defenders destroyed the enemy’s BMP-2 with the crew and troops who were moving to storm the positions,” the military reported.

According to the “Kharkiv” group of forces, the Russians are establishing cooperation between the 79th Motorized Rifle Regiment and the 155th Separate Marine Brigade in Hlyboke and mining forest belts. 

Over the past day, the Russian army launched 31 strikes with kamikaze drones and fired 437 times at Ukrainian positions. Since today, there has been one military clash near Vovchansk.

Defense forces destroyed 33 units of Russian equipment and killed 137 Russian troops in the Kharkiv direction over the past day.

The General Staff reported that over the past day, Russian troops tried to storm Ukrainian positions 11 times in the Kharkiv direction near Lyptsi, Hlyboke, Tykhe, and Vovchansk.

According to the General Staff, in the Kupiansk direction, there were six combat clashes over the day. Defense forces repelled Russian assaults near five different towns and villages. The Russian army conducted two attacks in the direction of Petropavlivka.
