UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 20 — Since the beginning of August, Kharkiv police evacuated 54 people from the Kupiansk, Kindrashivka, and Kurylivka communities in the Kupiansk district.

Kupiansk district is located in the east of the region and has been one of the primary targets of the Russian army since the start of a full-scale invasion.

On August 15,  Andrii Besedin, the head of the Kupiansk military administration, said during the national telethon that 1,906 people remain in the district.

“Unfortunately, the major reason people evacuate is (Russian air attacks) destroying or damaging their houses. The absence of critical and social infrastructure does not influence this process,” said Besedin.

The police evacuated 37 people from the Kupiansk community, 15 people from the Kindrashivka community, and two people from the Kurylivka community.

Earlier, Besedin noted that there are no safe evacuation roads near Kupiansk.

“We are recording how Russians are terrorizing the locals with FPV drones on fiber optics and Molniya drones, which control all logistics routes and access roads to the Kupiansk. They are watching and hunting down anyone who moves. Any cars or movement immediately become their targets,” Besedin said.

He also noted that each evacuation is a danger for the lives of volunteers, State Emergency Service, police, and all who participate in this process, but evacuation missions are still conducted every day.

On August 19, Ukraine repatriated the bodies of another 1,000 dead Ukrainian soldiers — among those are the bodies of five Ukrainian soldiers who died in captivity.
