PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Dec 7 — Kharkiv and Leeds agreed on a memorandum of friendship. The document was signed at the Embassy of the United Kingdom in the Czech capital.
First Deputy Mayor of Kharkiv Oleksandr Novak and Lord Mayor Councillor of Leeds Al Garthwaite left their signatures on the document. Before the ceremony, they met to discuss joint activities related to culture and sports.
- Leeds is the first city in Great Britain and the 30th city in the world to establish a partnership with Kharkiv.
“We care equally about the culture and education of our residents. Let the document we signed today be our first confident step in cooperation. I look forward to developing a fruitful partnership between our cities and especially to the day when peace comes to Ukraine,” said Al Garthwaite.
Leeds is a city in West Yorkshire, England. It is one of the major cities in the United Kingdom and is known for its rich history, vibrant cultural scene, and thriving economy. It has a diverse population is a significant centre for business, finance, education, and the arts. The city is also home to several universities, including the University of Leeds, which contributes to the city’s reputation as a hub for education and research.
Previously, in July 2023, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov Max Gruner, a representative of the mayor of the American city of Albuquerque, signed a memorandum on establishing sister-city relations between the cities.
