UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Nov 18 – On November 16, the Government of Japan and the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine announced the transfer of energy equipment for Kharkiv, reported the press service of the Kharkiv City Council.
In the spring of 2024, the Russian army attacked Ukrainian energy facilities with missiles and drone strikes. On May 8, the Prime Minister reported that they had destroyed or damaged 800 heating facilities in the country. In particular, the March attacks destroyed the power and heating infrastructure supplying Kharkiv and its region.
According to Kharkiv Deputy Mayor Dmytro Isaiev, Kharkiv will receive a 16 MW gas turbine that will ensure uninterrupted heat supply, 15 frequency-controlled drives, and 32 generators, which will help reduce the risk of water supply interruptions. According to him, some of the equipment has already been installed.
On November 8, the Swiss government reported it plans to allocate 500 million Swiss francs [over $571 million] to Kharkiv over the next four years for preparation for winter and reconstruction.
