UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep 16 — On September 15, the Russian army dropped about six glide bombs (KABs) on Kharkiv and its suburbs. One of the bombs hit a high-rise building in the Nemyshlianskyi district of the city, killing one person and injuring 43, including three children, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.
Russian army attacks Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, often because it’s close to the border and the frontline. Their attacks intensified significantly since Moscow launched a new ground offensive north of the Kharkiv region in May.
According to Syniehubov, people may still be under the rubble, as the Russians destroyed three apartments and damaged 22 apartment buildings.
The Russian bomb attack destroyed one entrance of the building, causing the 9th floor to catch fire, and damaging at least 1,500 windows and dozens of cars.
According to Kharkiv police chief Volodymyr Tymoshko, the Russians carried out the attack with tactical aircraft from the Belgorod region (Russia).
The evacuation of people who lived in the building is currently underway. Specialized and humanitarian organisations, both Ukrainian and international, are working at the hit site.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the Russian attack on Kharkiv and wrote: “The world must help to defend [Ukrainians] from Russian military aircraft, from dozens of guided bombs that take lives every day. This terror can be stopped. But to stop the terror, we need to stop the fear of strong decisions that are objectively necessary. Only determination can end this war justly. It is the determination that most effectively protects against terror.”
