UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct 29 — On October 28, at about 9:00 p.m., Russian military hit Kharkiv with an airstrike, injuring nine people and damaging the building of Derzhprom, a historic skyscraper building in the city’s center. Gwara Media has been to the impact site both at night and in the morning after to document the aftermath of the attack.
Russia attacks Kharkiv often because of its proximity to the border (18 miles) and the frontline, targeting civilian and critical infrastructure in the city. The Derzhprom office building in Kharkiv’s downtown is on the UNESCO World Heritage List as a modernist structure built in 1928.
The attack injured five men, including a policeman who had been on watch in the building, and four women, including two workers at a regional hospital. They got moderate injuries.
The bomb attack destroyed one entrance of Derzhprom. Pipes in the building were damaged by an attack, and all floors at the entrance were flooded. Bombardment also blew off the building’s windows and damaged doors.
The Russian attack also damaged a nearby regional hospital, apartment buildings, and restaurant.
According to preliminary investigation, Russia dropped the FAB-500 glide bomb with a modified module on Kharkiv in this attack. Law enforcement officials say it was launched from Stroitel in Belgorod Oblast.
