UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct 9 — On October 8, Kharkiv mourned a volunteer of the search and rescue team of the NGO “Troyanda na ruci” [“Rose on the hand” in translation from Ukrainian — ed.], Tyhran Halustian. The funeral ceremony was held at the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the volunteer was buried at the cemetery No. 18 in Kharkiv.
The man was killed when a Russian FPV drone hit his car on October 6. On that day, he and the team of “Troyanda na ruci” evacuated people from the Donetsk region.
Oleksandr Humeniuk, the head of a search and rescue team, said that the volunteers were moving in armored cars with electronic warfare equipment. The police were also working with them.
“This time, the guys were driving armored cars, there was an electronic warfare system, and the first car had police officers in it. But even this did not help. The first car slipped through, but a drone hit the second one through the roof. Tyhran was driving that car,” says Oleksandr.
At the funeral ceremony, family, friends, and colleagues came to honor Tyhran. Tyhran is survived by a six-year-old daughter and his mother.
“As a team, we are famous for our fearlessness, but Tyhran is one of the most fearless of us. His cheerfulness in difficult situations always encouraged the team,” Oleksandr said.
Humeniuk also added that the volunteer joined the team about eight months ago but did a lot during this time. During the Russian attacks in Kharkiv, he was always the first to try to rescue people at the impact sites and went to the hottest spots for civilian evacuation.
