UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Sep 5 — On September 2, the Russian shelling caused a large-scale fire in the village of Studenok, Kharkiv region, burning down more than 130 households. 205 people lost their homes, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast, today.

Towns and villages of the Kharkiv Oblast come under massive Russian artillery shelling and air strikes often, even more so since Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the region in the Vovchansk and Lyptsi directions in May.

The village’s residents are not leaving their homes despite the extensive damage, reported Syniehubov. “More than 180 evacuees have already returned. A humanitarian headquarters is currently operating in Studenok to provide the necessary assistance to the victims.”

Syniehibov added, that an outpatient family clinic has resumed its work in the village. Doctors and humanitarian organizations provide medical and psychological assistance. Village residents receive hot meals from World Central Kitchen. Neighboring communities and international partners are also assisting Studenok residents.

“Balakliia, Izium, Barvinkove, Kunie, and Donets territorial communities and international partners have provided food packages, hygiene products, and other essentials. Village council employees continue to collect information about the needs of the population,” Oleh Syniehubov said.

The power engineers have restored the electricity supply to Studenok, Syniehubov reported. The Izium district military administration and the Oskil village military administration are collecting information on compensation for the lost property of the villagers.

On September 2, the Russian shelling of the Oskil community in Izium district caused a large-scale fire to forest on an area of about 1,200 hectares and spread to the village of Studenok. A total of 275 rescuers were putting out the fire, using 77 pieces of equipment.
