UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 8 — Since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion, experts have cleared about 25,000 hectares of the Kharkiv region, but 40% of the area is still mined, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast on the meeting of the Congress of municipal and regional governments.
Kharkiv Oblast is one of the most heavily mined regions. More than 570,000 hectares of land in the Kharkiv region need to be inspected for mines and explosive devices after the Russian occupation.
Syniehubov said that, currently, 26 mechanical demining vehicles operate in the Kharkiv region. Deminers also start to use a new vehicle for soil preparation, which helps to protect personnel and increase demining productivity.
In total, explosive experts inspected 816 miles of roads, 131 miles of railroad tracks, 2,453 miles of power lines, and other critical facilities in the region. They found and destroyed more than 200,000 explosive items.
