UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 22 — Since the Russian new offensive on Kharkiv in May, 14,000 civilians, including 1,350 children, have been evacuated from the dangerous areas of the region, Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast, said on Ukrainian TV.

Towns and villages of the Kharkiv Oblast come under massive Russian artillery shelling and air strikes often, even more so since Russia launched a new ground offensive north and northeast of the region in the Vovchansk and Lyptsi directions in May.

Evacuation from the frontline areas of Kharkiv and Kupiansk is ongoing. Syniehubov said there are 236 settlements where families with children are not allowed to stay, and mandatory evacuation has been announced there.

There is a curfew from 5 p.m. to 9 a.m. in 201 settlements due to security reasons, as Russian troops shell these towns and villages most often.

“We provide humanitarian aid to the settlements on or near the frontline, as there are still people there. It is difficult to deliver the aid there. There has been no electricity in those settlements for almost two years,” the governor said.

Syniehubov also assured that the residents are guaranteed full control and help with moving within or outside the region during the evacuation.
