UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Aug 29 — In the Kharkiv and Kupiansk directions, there were 25 combat clashes over the past day, reported the General Staff.
Russia started its new offensive north and northeast in the Kharkiv region in May, but Ukrainian troops have stabilized the frontline in this section since. Now, heavy battles are ongoing in and around Vovchansk (three miles from the border, 46 miles away from Kharkiv) and near Lyptsi (six miles from the border, 12 miles from Kharkiv.)
According to the military, two combat clashes were in the Kharkiv direction. The Russians attacked near Lyptsi and Vovchansk.
In the Kupiansk direction, the number of combat clashes increased to 23 over the day, with the Defense Forces repelling attacks near Stelmakhivka, Kruhliakivka, Synkivka, and Kolisnykivka.
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reports, citing geolocation footage published on August 28, that Russian troops had advanced northwest of Pishchane (southeast of Kupiansk). Reports of Moscow occupying Pishchane first came in from OSINT researchers on July 24.
