The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights confirmed that 9,860 civilians died and more than 17,000 people were injured since the beginning of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, reported this to the UN Security Council.
Among 17,000 people who were injured, there were 1,196 children. Another 560 kids died. But that’s the verified numbers only, said DiCarlo. She explained that the numbers are likely to be much higher in reality — and if the situation continues, there will be more victims.
The UN organized this Security Council meeting to discuss the Russian missile strike on Hroza village on October 9, following the Ukrainian delegation’s request.
