UKRAINE, KHARKIV REGION, Apr. 8 — Officers from the White Angel special police unit evacuated 28 civilians from frontline areas of the Kharkiv region over the past week, regional police said.

A new law that allows the forced evacuation of children from high-risk areas without parental consent came into effect in March, with several such cases already recorded in the Kupiansk district.

Over the past week, officers carried out eight trips to combat zones, evacuating nine men and 19 women from the Zolochiv, Kindrashivka, and Velykyi Burluk communities.

In total, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service and National Police evacuated 733 people from frontline areas in the Kharkiv region, including 41 children and 45 people with disabilities over the past week.

Police said most of the evacuated were elderly or had limited mobility and were unable to leave the dangerous areas on their own.

Officers also evacuated four dogs and one cat during the past week.

On Mar. 20, authorities announced a plan to expand the evacuation zone, with mandatory evacuation to be implemented in several border villages in the Zolochiv community due to ongoing Russian attacks.
