UKRAINE, KUPIANSK, Dec. 12 — Ukrainian forces pushed Russian troops out of the northwestern Kupiansk, trapping remaining Russian units in the center of the city, reported DeepState, the OSINT war monitoring group.
Russia intensified their offensive on Kupiansk in summer 2025, entering Kupiansk with small assault groups. Their primary goal is to occupy the city and seize Kupiansk-Vuzlovyi, a village south of Kupinask, which is an important logistics hub on the left bank of Oskil River.
Since September Ukrainian forces have killed over 1,000Russian troops in Kupiansk. Currently, nearly 200 Russian troops remain in the city, said Ihor Obolenskyi, the commander of the 2nd Corps “Khartia,” who was responsible for planning and commanding the operation.
DeepState analysts say that Ukrainian counteroffensive started with the Ukrainian troops blocking and cutting the Russian garrison in Kupiansk off from their main forces. The Ukrainian army quickly retook the villages of Kindrashivka and Radkivka, north of Kupiansk, and took under fire control the village of Holubivka.
After a successful counterattack north of Kupiansk, Ukrainian troops pushed Russian soldiers out of Myrne, a village northwest of the city, and then they gained ground in the northwestern Kupiansk. Analysts added that operation in the central Kupiansk is still ongoing.
