UKRAINE, Apr. 9 — Ukraine conducted a repatriation exchange with Russia, repatriating 1,000 bodies claimed by Russia to be Ukrainian soldiers, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War reported.

The previous repatriation took place on Feb. 26, 2026, when Ukraine received 1,000 bodies that Russia claimed belonged to Ukrainian troops.

Shamsail Saraev, the Russian State Duma’s representative of the coordination group responsible for war in Ukraine, said that Ukraine handed over 41 bodies of soldiers to Russia. The Ministry of Defense of Russia hasn’t commented on the exchange yet.

Ukrainian authorities said that investigators, along with forensic experts from the Interior Ministry, will conduct examinations to identify the deceased. After identification, the bodies will be returned to their families for burial.
