Sep. 18 — Ukraine has received the first shipment of military equipment provided under the US and NATO agreement as part of the PURL initiative, wrote Suspilne, Ukrainian media, referring to an unnamed NATO representative.
The new mechanism for the supply of American weapons to Ukraine by the US and NATO has been officially named the “Priority Ukraine Requirements List” (PURL), reported Reuters, referring to three anonymous sources.
Four packages have been funded under the PURL program already, according to Suspiline. They said that even more aid packages are “already on the way.”
Suspilne’s source provided no details about what had already arrived in Ukraine. According to PURL the plan, Ukraine would prioritize the weapons it needs in tranches of roughly $500 million each, and NATO allies, coordinated by Secretary General Mark Rutte, would then negotiate among themselves on who would donate or pay for items on the list.
On Aug. 31, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that seven countries had already supported the PURL initiative, and the total amount raised for Ukraine’s weapons had reached $2 billion.
