UKRAINE, Dec. 30 — Drone pilots of the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade “Magura” downed a new Iranian Shahed-107 drone that Russia uses in war against Ukraine. This is the first documented case of shooting Shahed-107 down, said Wild Hornets, drone manufacturing company.
Wild Hornets added that to shoot Shahed-107 down, pilots used the Sting interceptor drone.
It was created as сounterweapon against Russian kamikaze drones — Sting can find Russian drones, catch up to them, and destroy them.
The Sting accelerates to 160 km/h, and the new modifications reach 315 km/h. It can raise in the air up to three kilometers, where ordinary drones lose signal and fall. Sting has a special streamlined body with a “dome” in the middle, where the camera and warhead are hidden.
Shahed-107 is Iranian kamikaze drone presented in June 2025. It has a wingspan of three meters and an X-shaped tail that helps keep it stable, and a drone equipped with a 15 kg cumulative fragmentation warhead, similar in characteristics to other warheads used on Iranian Shahed drones. An operating range of Shahed 107 is nearly 187 miles (300 kilometers).
The Ukrainian intelligence agency said that the fact that Russia uses Shahed-107 against Ukraine is another evidence of deepening cooperation between Tehran and Moscow.
