UKRAINE, CRIMEA, Mar. 24 — Overnight today, Ukraine tracked the Bastion missile system, launcher for hypersonic missiles 3M22 Zircon, that was moving to positions and destroyed it in Russian-occupied Crimea, reported the country’s main intelligence agency (HUR). They also published a video showing the Bastion system being targeted, reportedly near the settlement of Aktachi.
They destroyed one Bastion launcher, damaged another, and destroyed two expensive Zircon missiles. The Russian army, said HUR, uses Zircon from Bastion for “terror of the civilian population of Ukraine in northern and eastern regions of the country.”
“Tonight, the aggressor’s plan to attack peaceful cities was disrupted,” HUR wrote.
The Bastion system, officially called K-300P, is a mobile coastal defense platform mounted on an MZKT-7930 8×8 chassis, giving it cross-country mobility in harsh environments.
Russia uses the Bastion launcher to launch P-800 Oniks anti-ship supersonic missiles at Ukrainian cities and settlements as well, even though it’s designed to hit primarily naval targets.
