Oct 31 — The government of the Kingdom of Sweden has announced a humanitarian aid package for Ukraine totaling $10.34 million, reported the Ministry of Reintegration regarding the relevant decision of the Swedish government.
The total amount of assistance is 110 million Swedish kronor. That’s $10.34 million or 426.8 million hryvnias.
These funds will be used for the winter period to provide heat and electricity, as well as food, hygiene products, medicines, water and other supplies to those affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war and by damage Russian attacks caused to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. Funds were distributed among four humanitarian organizations in Ukraine:
- 50 million kronor ($4.7 million) for the Ukrainian Red Cross to provide the residents in need with devices for heating and food and food;
- 20 million kronor ($1.8 million) for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to support displaced people before and during the winter period;
- 30 million kronor ($2.8 million) for the United Nations Development Program to demine agricultural lands;
- 10 million kronor ($940 thousand) for the United Nations Population Fund to support victims of violence and restore the health care system.
According to the Kharkiv Oblast Governor, Oleh Syniehubov, there is no possibility of restoring the critical infrastructure destroyed by the Russians on the left bank of the Oskil River in the Kupiansk area, so it’s impossible to start a heating season there.
Additionally, Syniehubov said that the biggest risks for the 2024-2025 heating season are attacks on critical infrastructure, as it was in the spring of 2024.
On October 28, Sweden also announced 729 million Swedish krona (about $68 million) of military aid to Ukraine.
