UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Mar. 6 — A local from Kharkiv oblast, Zlatopillia community, returned home after 933 days in Russian captivity during the POW swap between Russia and Ukraine on Mar. 5, reported the mayor of Zlatopillia, Mykola Bashkeiev. 

Mykhailo Andriushchenko was captured by Russians on Aug. 15, 2023, near the Verbove settlement in Zaporizhzhia oblast. Bashkeiev says the man worked abroad before Russia’s full-scale invasion but returned to Ukraine after and volunteered to join the army. 

According to Bashkeiev, relatives of Mykhailo Andriushchenko always came to the local demonstrations that drew attention to the disappeared and captive community members.  

On Mar. 5, Ukraine returned 200 prisoners of war, including 18 Kharkiv oblast locals, from Russian captivity. On Mar. 6, authorities reported on another 300 POWs getting back to Ukraine.
