UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Jul 24 — On July 24, at 11:10 a.m., Russian troops attacked the Shevchenkivskyi district of Kharkiv with two guided aerial bombs, injuring at least 42 people, said Ihor Terekhov, the Kharkiv mayor.
Russia continues to attack civilians. Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, said that after proposing a ceasefire on July 23 in Istanbul, Russia attacked Ukraine again — 103 drones and four missiles overnight.
Gwara Media journalists worked at the impact site in Kharkiv to document the consequences of the Russian attack.
Oleh Syneihubov, the governor of Kharkiv region, said that the Russian attack injured a 10-year-old girl, a 17-year-old boy and girl, and a 28-day-old baby. Some of them have an acute stress reaction, and the 17-year-old boy suffered blast injuries to his head.
Five people were hospitalized, and a 33-year-old woman is in critical condition.
Viktor Zabashta, the head of the emergency medical center, confirmed that no people were trapped under the rubble.
One of the bombs fell in the middle of a residential area, blowing out windows in at least twenty houses and setting fire to the nearest cars.
The entire complex was covered in smoke, and there were bits of glass everywhere underfoot.
Nataliia, a resident of a nearby high-rise building, said that she was not at home at the time of the attack, but her pets were in the apartment. The blast wave blew out the windows, but the apartment had no significant damage.
“As you can see, it is an ordinary residential complex. There is a swimming pool and a supermarket nearby. They (Russians) are simply terrorizing and intimidating us,” said Nataliia.
As a result of the Russian attack, resident Marina and her child suffered shrapnel wounds to their legs. The blast wave blew out the interior doors in her apartment.
“We were in the apartment. We watched the news to see where the bomb was flying, and went out into the corridor with the child. The first explosion sounded, but luckily, the windows were open. After the second explosion, we ran out into the stairwell,” Marina said.
Police say the second glide bomb hit a garment business.
Artem Astakhov, head of the State Emergency Service of Kharkiv Oblast, reported that a fire broke out over its premises, setting ablaze the area of 1,200 square meters.
Yehor, who lives in this apartment complex, was walking in the park nearby when the bombs hit near his house. He said that this walk “saved him.”
“It was very loud. There are no military objects here. The parking lot was damaged, and many windows were broken,” he said.
The Prosecutor’s Office of Kharkiv region reported that the Russians attacked with two guided aerial bombs from a Su-34 aircraft from the territory of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. The launch range was about 100 km (62 miles).
