UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Jun 17 — Over the last day, Russian troops attacked two settlements in Kharkiv Oblast, injuring a 69-year-old man and 66-year-old woman in Kupiansk, reported Oleh Syniehubov, governor of Kharkiv Oblast.
Syniehubov added that Russian shelling damaged 10 houses and a residential apartment building in Kupiansk and Kupiansk Vuzlovyi. To attack the region, the Russians used five glide bombs and one Shahed drone.
Russian troops are trying to advance deeper into Kharkiv Oblast from the north (Kharkiv axis), east (Kupiansk axis), and southeast (Borova axis).
Kupiansk, a logistic and railway hub that Russia has already occupied in 2022 for over six months, has faced an increased danger of reoccupation since September 2024, when a Russian assault group managed to reach the outskirts of the city.
At the end of May 2025, local authorities reported Kupiansk to be 90% destroyed because of relentless Russian attacks.
