UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Mar. 24 — In the early morning, Russian forces attacked a suburban train in the Slatyne settlement north of Kharkiv oblast. The attack killed a 61-year-old passenger and injured the train driver and his assistant, reported the Kharkiv regional Prosecutor’s Office.
Just over the first four days of March, Russia launched 18 attacks on Ukrainian railroad infrastructure. Ukrainian Railroads began conducting evacuation of people from trains during Russian air raids. On Mar. 18, attacks on energy infrastructure also forced the company to temporarily limit the operation of high-speed Intercity trains in the Kharkiv oblast.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the suburban train was at Slatyne station and was supposed to go to Kharkiv. The Russians hit the train with a direct FPV drone strike while it was parked, hitting one of the carriages.
The press service of the Ukrainian Railway said that combined transportation will be used on the Kharkiv–Slatine route. The train will go from Kharkiv to the stop in Derhachi, 8 kilometers (~5 miles) from Slatyne, and then a bus provided by the local authorities will run to the final stop.
Over the past day, Russian forces attacked Kharkiv and 14 settlements in the region with seven glide bombs, and 26 drones of different types, said the governor Oleh Syniehubov.
A Russian drone hit the road in the Nemyshlianskyi district of Kharkiv, and another drone attacked the Osnovianskyi district. There were no casualties, said the Kharkiv regional police.
Russian attacks on the Bohodukhiv district injured a 30-year-old local from Riasne village and damaged houses and a car in Zolochiv settlement.
In the Kupiansk district, Russians hit an ambulance in Ploske village.
In the Izium district, a Russian attack damaged a house and outbuildings in Lypchanivka and Shchaslyve villages. They also damaged a garage and a car in Izium and launched a glide bomb at Oskil village.
In the Chuhuiv district, Russians damaged the roof of a house in Khotimlia village. They also launched an FPV drone to Kytsivka village and attacked a power network in Kyrylivka village, injuring a 51-year-old woman.
