UKRAINE, BOHODUKHIV, Feb. 11 — On the night of Feb. 10, Russian forces launched a drone at a house in Bohodukhiv in Kharkiv oblast, where a family of five lived, reported the Prosecutor’s Office of the Kharkiv region.
The attack killed a one-year-old girl, two boys of two years old, and their 34-year-old father. The house was fully destroyed, and the family was trapped under the rubble. Rescuers saved the mother, who is 35 weeks pregnant. She had blast injuries, a traumatic brain injury, barotrauma, and thermal burns.
The attack also injured a 74-year-old woman, reported Oleh Syniehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv oblast.
The family of five used to live in Zolochiv, a settlement in the Bohodukhiv district, located close to the Russian border, but evacuated to Bohodukhiv, said the Kharkiv regional police.
The killed man, the father of three, was a demobilized soldier Hryhorii Shykula, said the Zolochiv village administration.
He recently bought a house in Skovorodynivka, a village 18 kilometers (11 miles) from Bohodukhiv, and planned to move there with the family.
“To protect their children’s lives, the family moved away from the Russian border. They dreamed of living, raising children, rejoicing in every step, enjoying their successes… Russia destroyed everything,” said the administration.
The day before, on Feb. 9, a Russian airstrike hit a residential district in Bohodukhiv, killing a 10-year-old boy and his mother.
The Zolochiv community declared Feb. 11, 12, and 13 as days of mourning for the victims of Russian airstrikes on Bohodukhiv.
