UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, Dec. 8 — The State Environmental Inspectorate of Kharkiv region updated the amount of environmental damage in Kharkiv oblast to 531 billion hryvnias ($13 billion).
The inspectorate said that they continue to update the damages as new consequences of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine are documented.
The largest losses are connected with littering and pollution of land. Damage to more than 7.5 million square meters of territory caused losses of approximately 520 billion hryvnas ($12 billion).
Ecologists also recorded significant amounts of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. A total of 557,700 tons of pollutants caused damage estimated at 3.9 billion hrivnas ($93 million).
86 tons of pollutants entered the region’s water resources, and Russians took another 482.2 million cubic meters of water without permission. The total damage from these actions is more than 7 billion hryvnas ($167 million).
On Dec. 7, Russian forces attacked the dam of the Pechenihy reservoir in the Chuhuiv district, which led to traffic disruption.
