UKRAINE, KHARKIV OBLAST, May 26 — Over the past day, Russian forces attacked six settlements in Kharkiv Oblast, killing two and injuring five people, said Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the region.
Russia continues to assault positions of the Ukrainian military and attack civilians — last weekend marked one of the most massive air attacks on Ukraine since the start of the full-scale war. Russian drones and missiles killed at least 12 people.
On May 25, Russian forces launched a guided aerial bomb on Kupiansk, killing two women and injuring a man and two women.
On the morning of May 26, Russia hit the Kindrashivka community, injuring a man and a woman.
On May 26, Russian drones also attacked a private business in the Vasyshcheve settlement for over an hour, causing a massive fire. There were no casualties.
Overall, last week, Russians attacked the Kharkiv city seven times, injuring 11 people, including a child, said Ihor Terekhov, the mayor.
He also said that Russia used an FPV drone with an explosive “part taken from RPG (rocket launcher)” for the first time since the big invasion.
“They try to find ‘weaknesses’ in the defense of the city,” Terekhov said.
The report “Annual Threat Assessment” by US Intelligence said that Russian President Vladimir Putin is still determined to win the war against Ukraine.
“Putin regards the war in Ukraine as an existential struggle against the West that will determine Russia’s place in the world, Putin’s hold on power, and his historical legacy,” said the report.
