UKRAINE, KUPIANSK, Aug 27 — At around 9:20 a.m., Russia attacked Kupiansk with an FPV drone, hitting a civilian car and injuring a married couple, a man aged 69 and a woman aged 63, reports Kharkiv regional Prosecutor’s Office.

Prosecutors report they’ll investigate today’s attack on the couple as a war crime.

Kupiansk was occupied by Russia in 2022 and liberated in the autumn of that year. For the last two years, Russian troops have been trying to reoccupy it by enveloping the city from the west and disrupting Ukraine’s logistics

Currently, about 1,000 people remain in Kupiansk without gas, water, or electricity — these objects of civilian infrastructure were destroyed by Russian strikes through 2025.

Russia constantly attacks the city from drones of various kinds, glide bombs, and artillery, purposely targeting civilians.

This month, Gwara journalists’ conversation with locals who evacuated from the city and servicepeople from Ukraine’s army working in or around Kupiansk reported on the presence of Russian sabotage groups there. Local officials say they don’t have information about the presence of Russian SRGs in the city.

This August, Gwara celebrated its 10th anniversary. Whatever awaits Ukraine in Russia’s war, our Kharkiv-based newsroom plans to keep reporting on it. Please, support our journalism by buying us a coffee or subscribing to our Patreon.
