Dec. 19 — India’s government reported that Russia recruited over 200 citizens to use them in war against Ukraine, 26 were killed, and seven are missing in action, the Russian department of BBC says.
Russia has recruited foreigners from 128 countries worldwide, using fraudulent recruitment centers, private companies and state channels such as diplomacy and culture institutions in other countries, said Ukrainian state center for contouring disinformation. Center’s analysts added that Russia recruited over 1,000 foreign citizens to fight in Ukraine.
Currently, the Indian government holds talks with Russia to return home nearly 50 Indians. Deli has returned 100 of its citizens already.
Moscow claims that Russia recruits foreigners to its army only voluntarily.
India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal urged their citizens not to give in to false promises after hundreds of their citizens were recruited to the Russian army.
The relatives of those who were recruited said that Russian agents promised to provide young men a legal well-paid job. After that they forced them to sign a contract in Russian, which these men didn’t understand, they sent them to the war.
