KHARKIV, UKRAINE, Dec 31 — The first missile targeted a hotel in Kharkiv downtown, and the second hit a residential building. Four more missiles hit the ground in Industrialnyi district, causing no injuries. No one was killed, 22 people were injured, 10 were hospitalized.
According to the Kharkiv regional police chief, Volodymyr Tymoshko, the Russians used S-300 missiles.
Russian shelling damaged civilian infrastructure: a kindergarten, a medical facility, residential buildings, shops and transport.
“From the first day of the war, I have been saying that this is genocide, this is terrorism, and another proof that, unfortunately, we are getting is powerful missiles are hitting that civilian infrastructure. Such destruction on the eve of the New Year’s holidays is terrible terrorism,” said Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov to Gwara Media.
The shelling also smashed windows in the hospital located in the downtown area. Terekhov noted that the utility services would work all night. The street lights will not be turned off so that the utility companies can cover the windows. People from the damaged building will be resettled in dormitories for the time of repair.
On the night of December 30-31, Hirshmana Street will be closed to clean up the aftermath of the shelling.
