UKRAINE, KHARKIV, May 6 — At 3 a.m. on May 6, Russia attacked Kharkiv with 20 drones, hitting Shevchenkivskyi, Kyivskyi, Kholodnohirskyi, and Industrialnyi districts, said Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv.
That night, Russians launched 136 attack and decoy drones, affecting Kharkiv, Odesa, and Dnipropetrovsk regions, reported the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Oleh Syniehubov, governor of the Kharkiv region, said that Russia injured 11 civilians in Kharkiv Oblast over the past day, including four people, who were injured during an overnight drone attack in Kharkiv.
Terekhov said that small businesses suffered the most in the Kyivskyi district of Kharkiv. Up to a hundred retail outlets, mostly selling children’s toys and stationery, were destroyed at the “Barabashovo”—one of the largest markets in Ukraine. The market management has already promised entrepreneurs new places to trade.
“Russians damaged the city’s largest market, where many people come to shop. There is not a single military object or any potential military targets nearby,” said Syniehubov.
The Russian attack also set fire to a restaurant building in Kyivskyi district.
In Kholodnohirskyi district, the shelling damaged the facade of an apartment building and set fire to a shop, three cars, and a building.
“Tomorrow, administrative service centers will be open in the school located near the impact site. Apartment owners can apply for compensation there,” said Terekhov.
In the Industrialnyi district, a car and a tree caught fire in the aftermath of shelling. Russian drones damaged several houses in the private sector there as well.
The Russian troops attacked Ukrainian forces more than 10 times on Kharkiv and Kupiansk axes, said the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
