UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct. 22 — Several explosions were heard in Kharkiv after the Air Force warned of the threat of Russia Shahed drones from the north. Kamikaze drones hit a private kindergarten in the Kholodnohirskyi district of the city, reported local officials.
Gwara’s journalists report, referencing city mayor Ihor Terekhov, who arrived at the impact site, that at least 48 children were in the kindergarten building when the attack happened. Now, they are all evacuated. There’s no information about injured children as of now.
The fire broke out in the aftermath of Russian attack — emergency services are putting it out right now.
According to local officials, the attack killed a 40-year-old man and injured five people. At least two of the injured are currently under intensive care, having been severely wounded. Updated information from the officials says that the number of injured increased to seven people.
Russia often attacks Kharkiv, a large regional center just 19 miles from the state border. Russian troops target educational institutions frequently: since the start of the full-scale invasion, they have killed over 37 educational workers, and destroyed or damaged 132 schools and 112 kindergartens.
