UKRAINE, KHARKIV, Oct. 6 — “There won’t be any power here for a long time. Even the high-voltage line is broken,” said Viktor, one of the locals in the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv.

Fifteen Russian kamikaze drones hit the electrical substation in Viktor’s neighbourhood — the blast wave destroyed the ceiling and blew out the windows of his house. As Gwara’s journalists speak to him, he is waiting for municipal workers to repair the house “to warm it up a little.”

Yuliia lives on the nearest street. After the attack she called her neighbor immediately.

“She told me that the boiler fell on her, breaking the sink. She is covered in shards and cuts,” said Yuliia, adding that her neighbour didn’t want to get to the hospital, instead wanting to recover on her own.

Yuliia said that her child is sleeping now and will skip school today because lessons are conducted online. “There is no power in the house, so there is no internet either,” she said.
