JAPAN, OSAKA, Apr 21 — The restored Kharkiv printing house Faktor-Druk presented one of the first publications produced after the Russian attack at their facility at the world exhibition EXPO 2025 in Osaka, said the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine.
Last year, on May 23, Russia damaged Faktor-Druk with an S-300 missile, killing seven employees of the printing house and injuring 21. The attack burned down 50,000 books.
This publication is the one of the first books Faktor-Druk made using only their own production capacity. At first, the printing house presented the book at the World Economic Forum in Davos. Now the extended version is presented at EXPO 2025—it was created in a partnership with the United Nations Development Programme.
“This publication, as the whole pavilion of Ukraine on EXPO 2025, tells the world about our power and values. Ukrainian business continues to work despite difficult conditions, and Faktor-Druk is an example of this resilience. We are proud to tell these stories about Ukrainian business for such a big audience because this year, 23 million people will visit EXPO 2025,” said Yulia Svyrydenko, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade.
The book contains 20 stories of Ukrainian businesses and enterprises from different cities that continue to work and create new jobs.
“Real people are behind each story in this publication. We met them in Kramatorsk, Pokrovsk, Nikopol, Huliaipole, and Kharkiv. They restored printing houses after the (Russian — ed.) attacks, planted fields despite the danger, and started business again in new cities,” said Jaco Cilliers, UNDP Resident Representative to Ukraine.
Before the Russian full-scale invasion, Kharkiv printing house Faktor-Druk produced 40% of all Ukrainian textbooks, as well as children’s books, fiction, and specialized literature. Russia destroyed the binding workshop, which meant Faktor-Druk could only perform a part of their services. At the beginning of 2025, the printing house restarted the work with the help of Howard Buffett, an American businessman.
