Oct. 9 — Recent Russian attacks “wiped out” nearly 60% of Ukraine’s domestic natural gas production, Bloomberg writes, referring to their sources “with the knowledge of the matter” in Kyiv.

If the strikes continue, Bloomberg’s sources said, Ukraine will need to buy roughly 4.4 billion cubic meters of gas by the end of March, at a cost of nearly €2 billion. That’s the equivalent of nearly 20% of Ukraine’s annual consumption.

On Oct. 3, Russia conducted “the largest attack” on Ukraine’s natural gas production infrastructure since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion.

“Because of this attack, a significant part of our objects (in Kharkiv and Poltava regions) were damaged. Some of them are irreparably damaged,” said Serhii Koretskyi, a head of Naftogaz Ukraine board, adding that Russian attacks are terror against civilians, aimed to disrupt preparations for the winter heating season.
