GERMANY, BERLIN, May 28 — Germany will expand military help for Ukraine, said Friedrich Merz, the Chancellor of Germany, during the press conference with Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, in Berlin.
Zelenskyy arrived in Berlin to meet Merz and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the President of Germany, to discuss further defense support for Ukraine, weapons production in Ukraine, and cooperation between Ukrainian and German defense industries.
“I can say that our military support will continue and expand to help Ukraine defend itself from Russian aggression in the future. We will dedicate a significant part of our help to buy Starlink for Ukraine,” said Merz.
Also, the Chancellor of Germany noted that Ukraine shouldn’t have strike range limits. “Ukraine can fully defend itself,” he said.
Zelenskyy also talked about agreements for common weapons production projects. “We can’t say all the details, but today we agreed to invest in production in Ukraine, primarily for drones,” he said.
Also, Boris Pistorius, the Federal Minister of Defence, and Rustem Umerov, the Minister of Defence of Ukraine, signed an agreement about the financing of producing long-range weapons in Ukraine — they also signed a contract between the Ukrainian and German weapons industry.
Over the past day, Russian forces assaulted Ukrainian positions 11 times in Kharkiv Oblast. At the same time, the ISW reported on several Russian advances on the Kharkiv and Kupiansk axes.
